Jessica's You Tube Adventures: Eyebrow Threading

I watch so much you tube and I get so many of my ideas and techniques from there that I thought this might require it's own section!!!.  I'll probably start doing my own videos at some point.  It's really the inevitable course of action right?  First comes excessive commenting and posting, then personal blog creation and then comes the You Tube Channel in a baby carriage.  Okay but seriously, I'm a ham...a secluded loner ham who spends waaay too much time on the Internet.  It was meant to be.

Moving on to today's Adventure, I needed to pluck my eyebrows...zee time had come, but I had a problem I've never experienced before.  I had options.  Normally all I do is pluck them, professional eyebrow care is not a place I want to spend my money.  I would rather buy a book or a blush.  I watched a You Tube video the other day on threading.  The only reason I even knew about threading was that I clicked on some link about it why searching Eastern eye lining methods.  For those of you who don't know, threading is when you take a single piece of thread, tie it into a loop, twist it and then use strategic pulling methods to pull out hairs.  It sounds complicated, and it does take a while to get the hang of it, but when you do you get those perfect lines we envy in Bollywood stars.

My results:

I had the courage to go a bit thinner than normal and I was terrified of ripping and entire swatch out of my eye.  It was truly a terrifying, nail biting experience, but I must say it definitely hurt less than plucking and my eyes was visible less irritated by it.  I imagine it will be faster later too, asis it took me just as much time to thread as it does to pluck.  I'm very happy I decided to give it a try.

To learn about threading, I highly recommend this video by Eily311.  I'm sure there are many out there.  Some people are even courageous enough to document their first time at it.  Overall I think she was very clear, concise and encouraging about.  Her eyebrows are also excellent, making you feel like she knows what she is doing.

Wow the girl in the video made it look incredibly easy and painless!

You brows looks great Jessie!

I pay quite a bit for mine but its always perfect and painless. Im always scared that if I change my peoples I'll get butchered! I have to get over my fear!

I think I'm going to find a good place and get them threaded! I'll try to do it myself...but if all fails I'll have someone do it for me!

Nice! I learned to thread my brows in high school, and it's so awesome! I also serve as the official "brow-fixer" for all my friends and family, because they find the threading so "cool." You did a great job - my first time looked rather... well, let's just say it wasn't pretty. Sticking out tongue

I love Eily311 vids! Your eyebrows look really great! Smiling I love the precise look. I started off plucking my eyebrows. I was never able to achieve an arch, it was mostly straight. So I wouldn't even bother highlighting when I'd wear eye makeup. So I inquired about threading and surprisingly, it wasn't so costly. I've seen some places where it costs $10+. I'm not about to spend $30+ monthly, like you I'd rather buy blush. But I do get my eyebrows threaded at the South Asian salons for $5-$6. It's been a painless process ever since and I love my arches! Threading my eyebrows did such a drastic difference to my face.. for the better!

Your brows look amazing!
I might just be a bit too afraid to try this...

I would never do it myself because my hands shake a lil but def get my brows threaded about every 3wks!
It's the way to go waxing is not. Also, I let them do my upper lip hairs ... it does hurt but only for like 2min but you're face and make up looks better. I pay $5 to get my eyebrows or upperlip threaded here in NYC. i usually go to the Indian salons they've been doing this for years so I trust them but that's just me lol. You're face looks so much cleaner. I would suggest going for a full face threading just to see how you like it if you have never tried it. People do notice!

I had a Middle Eastern woman once thread my brows after she waxed them a bit just to show me how it is done. I liked it and didn't hurt much. I have just been tweezing lately because of a retinoid I use on my skin nightly- waxing would rip off my skin at this point. Don't think I have steady hands for a DIY attempt, but I'll check out local salon services. Thanks and the brows look fab Eye-wink

Yeah Threading is definitely a great alternative to waxing in your situation because it doesn't pull any skin off.

I first got my eyebrows threaded over a year ago, I'm too afraid to do it myself... i can't like... LOOK at myself doing that and causing pain... haha its just weird to me. I've only gotten it done a few times because my brows aren't bad at all and i just pluck the spare hairs normally, but my bfs mom got me into it... hehe

Wow your eyebrows are beautiful! Thanks for the tutorial, it looks so easy (yet scary) - I'll try it on mine, since I can't find any place that does threading where I live.
